The outside of a house is judged before anyone gets through the door. We rebuild elevations, replace front doors and surrounds to match the original detail, and put back render, brickwork and stone where it has failed.
Levels are the thing that gets missed. A garden has to meet the threshold properly, drain away from the building, and hold its finish through a wet winter — which is a drainage problem before it is a landscaping one.
Roof terraces and balconies bring waterproofing into it as well, so we detail those alongside the structure rather than treating them as a finish.
